Speicherstadt
The largest warehouse district in the world, red brick on oak piles, built in the 1880s for coffee, tea, spices and carpets. Best walked at dusk when the canals go still.
Elbphilharmonie
A glass wave on top of a 1960s cocoa warehouse. The public plaza between the two is free and gives the best view of the harbour in the city.
The 62 ferry, not the tour boat
A public transport ferry down the Elbe past the container terminals; same view, a fraction of the price.
