Practical things about Iceland that are not obvious from outside it.
- Weather closes roads with little warning; a rental booked in July can still be stuck in a storm.
- Off-road driving is illegal and damages moss that takes decades to regrow.
- Tap water is glacial and free; buying it bottled is the most conspicuous tourist error in the country.
