Fjord Norway, Norway
Odda & Trolltunga
A smelter town at the end of a fjord arm, and a slab of rock that sticks 700 metres out over a lake.
Odda & Trolltunga is at 60.070°N, 6.550°E.
Why go
- Trolltunga: 28 km round, ten hours, and not a stroll
- Folgefonna glacier above the valley
- The smelter town itself, which is on the UNESCO tentative list and is not pretty
Give it 2–3 nights
Enough to see the list below without spending the trip on trains. The Journey Planner uses exactly this range when it builds an itinerary.

Getting there

Things to do
Trolltunga, with the day it needs
Ten to twelve hours, a 1,200-metre climb, and mountain rescue callouts every season from people who read it as a viewpoint with a car park.

Travel tips
Practical things about Norway that are not obvious from outside it.
- Card and phone payment work everywhere, including on ferries and in mountain huts. Cash is close to useless.
- Allemannsretten — the right to roam — lets you walk and camp on uncultivated land, with obligations attached: no fires in summer, no trace, 150 metres from any house.
- Alcohol above 4.7% is sold only in state Vinmonopolet shops, which close early and shut on Sundays.
Accommodation & restaurants
EuropeDoor lists neither, yet. Both are business listings rather than editorial entries: they need an operator who claims them, a verification tier and a way to keep prices current, and all three are blocked on the same thing as everything else commercial here. How listings will work · what is built and what is blocked.
Publishing a scraped hotel list would be quick and would be the first unverified thing on this site. That is the trade being refused.

Europe Experience Score
How this is calculated — derived from our own tagging, not from measurement. It says what a place is for, not how good it is. The tick on each bar is the median across the whole Atlas, so a bar short of it is a dimension this place is not for.
