Austria
Vienna & the East
The imperial capital, the Danube valley's vineyards, and Hungary's old border country.

Places to see
Everything recorded across Vienna & the East, in one list.
Schönbrunn Palace
1,441 rooms, a park that is free to walk, and a zoo founded in 1752 that is the oldest still operating anywhere.
Kunsthistorisches Museum
The Habsburg collection, which means the largest group of Bruegels in existence and a room of Vermeer, Velázquez and Caravaggio that would be a national museum anywhere else.
Stephansdom
The tiled roof is the thing: 230,000 glazed tiles in a chevron pattern, laid as a double eagle on one side and the city arms on the other.
Naschmarkt
A kilometre and a half of stalls that began as a milk market in the 1770s. Cheaper and less performed at the far end from the underground station.
Things to do
Standing room at the Staatsoper
A few euros, queued for on the night, in one of the great opera houses. Bring a scarf to tie to the rail and hold your place.
A heuriger on the city edge
Wine taverns in Vienna's own vineyards, open only when the grower has wine to sell — a pine branch over the door means open.
Journeys through Vienna & the East
Accommodation & restaurants
EuropeDoor lists neither, yet. Both are business listings rather than editorial entries: they need an operator who claims them, a verification tier and a way to keep prices current, and all three are blocked on the same thing as everything else commercial here. How listings will work · what is built and what is blocked.
Publishing a scraped hotel list would be quick and would be the first unverified thing on this site. That is the trade being refused.
The record
What this atlas holds about Vienna & the East. The counts are derived from the region's own destinations and move when it does; the seasons and the daily cost belong to Austria and are repeated here rather than looked up.

Food, events and practicalities are on the country page
They belong to Austria rather than to Vienna & the East, and repeating them on every region page is how two copies of a fact start disagreeing. Austria →
