The Northwest & the Mountains, Azerbaijan
Sheki
A silk road town under wooded mountains, with a khan's summer palace whose windows are built without glue or nails.
Sheki is at 41.190°N, 47.170°E.
Why go
- The Palace of Sheki Khans, with shebeke lattice windows of 5,000 pieces each
- The caravanserai, still taking guests
- Sheki halva, layered and made only here

Travel tips
Practical things about Azerbaijan that are not obvious from outside it.
- The border with Armenia is closed; an Armenian stamp can complicate entry.
- Baku's old city and the Gobustan petroglyphs are both UNESCO-listed.
- Tea houses are a social institution and usually male-dominated outside the capital.
Accommodation & restaurants
EuropeDoor lists neither, yet. Both are business listings rather than editorial entries: they need an operator who claims them, a verification tier and a way to keep prices current, and all three are blocked on the same thing as everything else commercial here. How listings will work · what is built and what is blocked.
Publishing a scraped hotel list would be quick and would be the first unverified thing on this site. That is the trade being refused.

Europe Experience Score
How this is calculated — derived from our own tagging, not from measurement. It says what a place is for, not how good it is. The tick on each bar is the median across the whole Atlas, so a bar short of it is a dimension this place is not for.
