Practical things about Bulgaria that are not obvious from outside it.
- Shaking the head means yes and nodding can mean no — it catches everyone out.
- In the EU but the lev is still the currency, pegged to the euro.
- Mountain huts in Rila and Pirin are basic, cheap and often full at weekends.
