The North & the Wadden Islands, Netherlands
Texel
The largest Wadden island: dunes, sheep, seals and thirty kilometres of empty North Sea beach.
Texel is at 53.060°N, 4.800°E.
Why go
- Seal colonies on the sandbanks, seen from a boat
- Bird reserves on the migration route, best in spring
- Local lamb and a brewery, on an island you can cycle around in a day
Give it 2–3 nights
Enough to see the list below without spending the trip on trains. The Journey Planner uses exactly this range when it builds an itinerary.

Things to do
Wadlopen — walking the sea floor
Guided walks across the exposed seabed at low tide, thigh-deep in mud, timed against a returning sea. Never attempted alone.

Travel tips
Practical things about Netherlands that are not obvious from outside it.
- Do not walk in the bicycle lane. This is the single most reliable way to annoy a Dutch person.
- Amsterdam's centre is heavily regulated now — tours, rentals and behaviour all more restricted than the reputation suggests.
- Almost everyone speaks excellent English and will switch before you finish your first Dutch sentence.
Accommodation & restaurants
EuropeDoor lists neither, yet. Both are business listings rather than editorial entries: they need an operator who claims them, a verification tier and a way to keep prices current, and all three are blocked on the same thing as everything else commercial here. How listings will work · what is built and what is blocked.
Publishing a scraped hotel list would be quick and would be the first unverified thing on this site. That is the trade being refused.

Europe Experience Score
How this is calculated — derived from our own tagging, not from measurement. It says what a place is for, not how good it is. The tick on each bar is the median across the whole Atlas, so a bar short of it is a dimension this place is not for.
