The Julian Alps, Slovenia
Bovec & the Soča
An alpine valley on an unreally turquoise river, and the front line of the Isonzo battles above it.
Bovec & the Soča is at 46.340°N, 13.550°E.
Why go
- Rafting and kayaking on the Soča in early summer
- The Walk of Peace: open-air museums along the 1915–17 front
- The Vršič pass, 50 hairpins built by Russian prisoners of war
Give it 2–3 nights

Things to do
The Walk of Peace
Trenches, chapels and cemeteries left in place along the mountain front where 300,000 died; the signage is unusually honest.
Getting near
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport
Airport · LJU
Airports and ports within reach, from Natural Earth — public domain, hosted by us. The distance is a straight line, which is the only thing a coordinate can honestly tell you: 43 km across the Accursed Mountains is four hours, and we hold no timetables, operators or fares.

Travel tips
Practical things about Slovenia that are not obvious from outside it.
- A vignette is required for motorways and checked automatically.
- Cave temperatures sit around 8°C year-round; bring a layer even in August.
- The Julian Alps are limestone — via ferrata is common and needs real equipment.
Accommodation & restaurants
EuropeDoor lists neither, yet. Both are business listings rather than editorial entries: they need an operator who claims them, a verification tier and a way to keep prices current, and all three are blocked on the same thing as everything else commercial here. How listings will work · what is built and what is blocked.
Publishing a scraped hotel list would be quick and would be the first unverified thing on this site. That is the trade being refused.

Europe Experience Score
How this is calculated — derived from our own tagging, not from measurement. It says what a place is for, not how good it is. The tick on each bar is the median across the whole Atlas, so a bar short of it is a dimension this place is not for.
