Saxon fortified churches, Transylvania

Romania, where this project is. The register records the country and no finer position — coastline and frontiers from Natural Earth, public domain.

Around 150 fortified churches were built by German-speaking settlers in Transylvania between the 13th and 16th centuries. Most of the community that maintained them left after 1990, and the roofs are the first thing to go.

What it needs

Roof and gutter work on the smaller village churches that no tour reaches, and salaries for the local key-holders who open them. Shingle, tile and lime mortar, applied by masons from the same villages.
