Practical things about Armenia that are not obvious from outside it.
- The borders with Türkiye and Azerbaijan are closed; overland routes go through Georgia or Iran.
- The genocide of 1915 is central to national memory and the memorial is treated with real solemnity.
- Monasteries are working churches; women are not required to cover but modest dress is expected.
